New Era at the New Istanbul Airport IST

As a new regulation, it’s been banned to use any kind of board/banner for meet & greet service at Istanbul Airport IST by Turkish authorities. For the ones who are trying to meet their guests by calling or asking their names are faced with a penalty of 50 Euro.

There is only one way to establish the meet & greet and that is to use the Meeting Lounge. ‘Young Woman Reading’ has been sold for £6.3M, an Auction Record for Ottoman Painter Osman Hamdi Bey.

Young Woman Reading reached to £6.3 million (US$7.8 million) at a Bonhams auction in London, setting a new world record price for Osman Hamdi Bey at auction.

The sale price was more than 10 times its presale low estimate of £600,000.

Charles O’Brien, Bonhams head of 19th-century art, said that “The 1880 painting
Young Woman Reading depicts a kneeling young girl reading the Qur’an against a colorful background with Islamic designs, and demonstrates the unique nature of Osman Hamdi’s Orientalism, and his artful game,”

The previous record for Osman Hamdi Bey was his 1906 painting The Tortoise Trainer, which fetched US$3.5 million.

Thomas Cook airline and travel goes bankrupt

The nervous waiting of tourism sector lasted for months and finally has come to an end. British airline and travel company declared bancruptcy this morning. Approximately 600,000 travelers were left stranded.

The head of Civil Aviation Authority announced that every single person will be brought back home at the end of their holiday and everyone will be brought home free of charge.

UK Government Officials said Everyone on a Thomas Cook holiday with a return flight to the UK within the two weeks will be brought home.

% 35 of the total Thomas Cook operations was in Turkey. Around 21,000 tourists are currently on vacation in Turkey by Thomas Cook. The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced today, they will support the companies affected because of the bankruptcy. They will launch a loan program with The Turkish Ministry of Finance for the companies concerned.

World’s oldest temple Gobeklitepe, Turkey draws global attention with 4 million visitors in 2019

Gobeklitepe in Turkey’s southeast added to UNESCO World Heritage list in 2018

Gobeklitepe, world’s oldest known temple in Southeastern Turkey, has allured more tourists worldwide since its recognition by UNESCO last year.

After UNESCO recognition, the number of visitors, especially foreign tourists, significantly rose in the ancient site. In the upcoming period, the number will continue to rise.

Gobeklitepe is an official UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is recognized as the oldest temple in the world by many international organizations.

The site got extra attention after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared 2019 the year of Gobeklitepe.

Gobeklitepe was found in 1963 by researchers from universities in Istanbul and Chicago. Since then, the excavations have never stopped.

The German Archaeological Institute and Sanliurfa Museum have carried out a joint work at the site since 1995 and have found T-shaped obelisks from the Neolithic era towering some 3-6 meters (10-20 feet) high and weighing 40-60 tons.

During the excavations, diverse historical artifacts like a 65-centimeter-long (26-inch) human statue dating back 12,000 years have also been discovered.
